Women’s soccer season ends in shootout

Story by Lauren Bechard

The Baker University women’s soccer season came down to penalty kicks in the first round of the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday.

The Wildcats ultimately ended their season to MidAmerica Nazarene University during the shootout, falling 3-2.

In spite of the 16 shots taken by Baker and 15 for MNU, neither team was able to score in the 110 minutes of play prior to the shootout.

Juniors Shelby Schiraldi and Bailey Sosa each made a PK; however, the Wildcats missed the last three shots.

Between the pipes, junior Rachel Theobald made one save during the shootout and five during the playoff game, adding to her total of 70 saves for the season.

Freshman Krista Hooper ended her debut season leading the team with seven goals. She was also one of the shot leaders during the playoff game along with junior Alexa Fryer, taking three shots apiece.

Baker ends its season with a 7-5-7 overall record and 3-2-2 in HAAC play.
