A preliminary hearing has been set for November in the case of a 17-year-old Lawrence murder suspect accused of killing Baker University student Roland Klundt.

In a hearing held Friday Douglas County District Judge Michael Malone scheduled the hearing for Nov. 13 after Julia Spainhour, a defense attorney with the Northeast Kansas Conflict Office, asked for more time to review the case of her newly acquired client Kellam Jones.

Spainhour and Kip Elliott took over Jones’ case after defense attorney Craig Stancliffe withdrew Sept. 10 due to conflicts with potential witnesses and time.

Jones is charged with felony murder and attempted aggravated robbery. If Jones is convicted of felony murder, he could face a sentence of 20 years to life in prison.

Prosecutors allege Jones and McLouth resident Gage Hauk, 18, in the early morning hours of June 7 went to Klundt’s home at 1311 Delaware Street in Lawrence to commit a robbery.

The allegations are that Klundt shot Hauk and Jones then shot Klundt.<br/>Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson requested Malone raise Jones' bond from $250,000 to $500,000 citing the seriousness of the allegations.Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson requested Malone raise Jones' bond from $250,000 to $500,000 citing the seriousness of the allegations.
