Today, in the spirit of stepping away from the norm, instead of introducing a relaxing, folk-ish band to listen to when you’re closed up in your room being a hermit, I’ve decided to go down a more electronic route.
So, let’s talk about Neon Indian.
A few months back, while listening to some MGMT on Pandora, I happened to scroll down to the bottom of the page where similar bands are listed. Normally when I see this section of the website, my reaction can be summed up in simply one word: “meh.”
Expecting the normal list of bands that I already knew—as well as knowing that they sound nothing like the band my station is designed around—I was surprised to find that, at the bottom of my beloved MGMT page, there was a band that seemed promising (mostly because the name was interesting).
Typically, I try to stay within my prized indie/folk borders, but this time I was glad that I’d strayed away. Choosing Deadbeat Summer as my first track after a quick Google search, I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle changes in beat that made the song almost hypnotic. As I continued to listen to more, I discovered that I really enjoyed this odd electronic stuff that used to seem so foreign to me.
So began my love for the electronic/chillwave genre via Neon Indian.
For this blog, I’ve included their song "Polish Girl" from the album Era ExtrañaEra Extraña..Era Extraña.
