After winning its final two games of the regular season, the Baker University men’s basketball team found its way into the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament. Only the league’s top eight teams make the tournament, and Baker grabbed the final selection.

The Wildcats began the week with a 75-57 senior night victory over Peru State College on Thursday in Collins Center. Senior Todd Johnston led Baker offensively with 16 points, including four 3-pointers. Three other Wildcats scored in double figures, including juniors EJ Carter and Connor McDaniel and freshman Javeion Gray.

On Saturday, it took two overtime periods for Baker to escape past Missouri Valley College 80-77. The Wildcats were able survive thanks to a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by McDaniel to send the game into a second overtime and three free throws by Johnston with 0.8 seconds to win the game.

The Wildcats will face top-seeded Benedictine College at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Atchison.
