Kevin Hopkins, who will become Baker’s minister to the university on July 1, hosted Mungano’s eighth annual Gospel Extravaganza on March 28 in McKibbin Recital Hall.

Students from Baker and neighboring universities sang and danced to send the message of the Gospel.

“This year, there was a very intimate crowd,” Mungano President Ty Sloan, who danced at the event, said. “I loved that we had the new campus minster to emcee that night …people stayed to socialize, and all the performers were great.”

Hopkins attended the event with his wife and one of his daughters. He saw YouTube clips of past Gospel Extravaganza’s and wanted to attend one. Then Mungano approached Hopkins to host the annual event.

Sloan said members of the Mungano board invite students from other schools to participate in the extravaganza each year.

A few students from the University of Kansas, Park University and Ottawa University performed alongside Baker students, providing a saxophone solo, a vocal performance and a mime-like dance routine to enhance the line-up of performers for the event.
