Like most students at Baker University, I have a pretty jam-packed schedule.
Juggling classes, work and managing a house can make it difficult to find time with my husband. When my birthday came around last week, he and I wanted to find a way to celebrate without spending the time to bake a cake
We found a recipe in a Pampered Chef cookbook for black velvet truffle bars that looked easy, so we decided to give it a try. The recipe only has four ingredients, which makes it easier to keep the ingredients on hand, and there is no need for a stove – just a microwave.
However, anyone who doesn’t like really rich chocolate shouldn’t make the recipe. I am an extreme chocolate fanatic and I could only handle one truffle at a time.
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I am definitely planning on making this little treat again. The truffles are finger foods and extra rich – they are perfect for the romantic holiday. To me, this treat seems much more thoughtful than a box of chocolates from the store, guys.
It is easy enough to mix up the batter and then it’s a matter of waiting. It only took me five minutes to mix the batter, but it has to set up overnight in the refrigerator. It then took me about 15 minutes to scoop out and dip each of the truffles after they had set up overnight.
Even though the recipe was extremely easy and fast to mix up, I really didn’t like that the batter had to set up overnight. If you are looking for a chocolate fix immediately, this recipe won’t be appropriate.
One thing I always appreciate in a recipe is versatility. My husband doesn’t like nuts so we chose to dip some of the truffles in coconut while we dipped others in powdered sugar or even cappuccino mix.
It’s always great to have at least one recipe on hand that is quick, easy and versatile.
