Coming off a first-place finish at the Maple Leaf Invitational, the women’s cross country team ran another strong race Saturday at the Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.

The team finished 18th out of 41 teams, running against schools from the NAIA and NCAA Division I and II levels. The men’s team finished in 27th place out of 35 teams.

The Wildcats are dominated by freshmen as four of the top five women runners were freshmen and the men ran six freshmen at the meet.

“I knew what type of athletes we were bringing in for freshmen,” head coach Zach Kindler said. “We still have some work to do to get to where I really believe they can be at.”

Baker's women's team is ranked second in the HAAC, behind Benedictine College, while the men's team is fourth.<br/>
