Fans of the Artist and Lecture Series can expect to see some new faces during the 2009-2010 school year.
Anne Daugherty, associate professor of liberal arts, is thrilled about having the series back because there had been talk of it being cut due to budget concerns.
It was a joint effort between Provost Randy Pembrook, Robin Liston, assistant professor of music, and Daugherty to get the series back.
“We all felt it’s too important to just let it go,” Daugherty said. “We also felt that a shortage of money would help us be creative in ways we’d not thought about before.”
Daugherty said she is really excited for the opportunity to make the series different.
“Our goal is not just to bring awesome people, but to bring hands-on experience to Baker,” she said.
The first performance in the series is Tom Chapin and Friends. Chapin is a singer and songwriter known for his folk music and family shows. Chapin brings with him several accolades, including a few Grammy Awards.
“He is a really, really interesting person,” Daugherty said.
Chapin will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at Rice Auditorium. The cost is $25 for adults and $10 for children. Baker students can go for free.<br/>&#160;
