Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council both met Tuesday to discuss plans for organizational changes to be implemented in the near future.
IFC devoted the entire meeting to addressing its proposal for a revised party policy.
“It’s in the revision stages. Basically, we’re trying to make it an equal, fair policy for all the fraternities,” senior Jon Xenos said. “This way, we’ll feel more comfortable knowing that we came up with the policy.”
Senior Chris Gaylor said he began working on the new policy last year before IFC began its work revising the draft this year. Gaylor said he drew inspiration from national party standards for his fraternity, Delta Tau Delta, and from standard risk management guidelines from national greek organizations.
“The one that (Baker) had in place was confusing,” Gaylor said. “The one we have now is really well-structured and lays out what you need to have a successful party.”
Xenos said one change will be a clearer definition of what constitutes a party based on the number of guests in proportion to the numbers of members a house has.
“That’s one thing we’re trying to implement so then there is a set number of people when it is actually considered a party,” Xenos said. “There are going to be no gray areas.”
Other changes will include the number of days required to register a party before its occurrence.
IFC was scheduled to vote on the issue in a special meeting Thursday, but results were unavailable as of press time.
Panhellenic also proposed alterations Tuesday, discussing changes to the structure of the member makeup of the organization. Currently, Panhellenic comprises the four gamma chis and four junior gamma chis.
President Brooke Brutto said the new makeup would include two to four members from each house and would be more inclusive within the greek system.
“Panhellenic will be doing a lot more than they’ve done in past years,” she said. “I think it will be a lot more productive for the school.”
Vice president Karrie Potter said the changes should be positive despite only being in the planning stage at this point.
Brutto said the changes must be decided upon prior to the start of slating for sorority officers, which will begin in a little more than a week.
