Handshake is the new job board application used by the Career Services department at Baker University. This application is replacing College Central Network, which was the previous job posting application used on Baker’s campus.
“We’ve always has some kind of place for students to look for jobs,” Gary Handy, director of career services & community outreach, said, “but for the longest time that’s all it was and it was limited.”
Handshake varies from College Central Network because it has several more features that are beneficial to students looking for career opportunities. Along with have a page for job listings, Handshake also events available for students, such as job fairs and internship information meetings.
Handshake also features a question and answer section that allows students to post questions about a career path or advice and get responses from other Handshake users. Users can also connect with other students from any university that uses Handshake.
Both regional and nationwide job opportunities can be found through Handshake’s job board. Handshake is currently used on over 700 college campuses and any job posted is viewable nationwide. Since Handshake’s launch on Baker’s campus in July 2017, 1,002 employers have connected to the Baker Handshake page.
Students can also use the platform to schedule a meeting in the Career Services department at Baker University. Another benefit of Handshake is that is only posts jobs that are relevant to students and recent graduates.
“The good news is while you can search for job in other places, like Indeed and LinkedIn,” Handy said, “these particular jobs are designed for this level of students.” This means that students will not have to sort through jobs that require years of prior experience or education beyond a bachelor’s degree because the jobs on this platform are meant for students and recent graduates.
The process of transitioning from College Central Network to Handshake was started by former Director of Career Services, Susan Wade and completed by Handy.
Students can visit bakeru.joinhandshake.com and enter their Baker student email address and password to begin using the Handshake service.
