Without a doubt, if you are a Baker student or staff member, you have come in contact with Student Activities Council, more commonly known as SAC.
SAC holds and puts on a multitude of events on and off campus for Baker students to enjoy, ranging from Welcome Week for incoming freshman to the donut walls and chocolate fountains in the union we all know and love.
Junior Communication Studies major and SAC President, Ajhanae Franklin loves and enjoys her role in SAC. “The people are my favorite,” she said, “Working with Mindy, Dylan, Johnny, Chance, Randy and everyone else. We come together and make a great team.”
Randy Flowers is on his ninth year as the advisor for SAC. “It is quite a privilege to be working with the students I am blessed to be around each day,” Flowers said. “These students pour their hearts into their roles and define servant leadership at Baker University. I then love that SAC has an impact on the Baker community by implementing so many different types of events.”
SAC still has over 20 events planned for before the fall semester ends. Not only do they throw dance parties and Grocery Bingo nights for students, they have more serious events like Tunnel of Oppression, Last Lectures and other heavy hitting activities that are very important to campus.
Mindy Lo, senior exercise science major and the social and cultural issues coordinator for SAC, deals mostly with organizing events on heavy, need to know topics. “I do all of the events that people don’t normally talk about,” Lo said, “Things about sex, drunk driving, body image. These are so important for Baker students to learn about.”
Lo, Franklin and Flowers all encourage Baker students to attend and join SAC.
“Join SAC to be able to put on so many different types of programs, allowing you to gain skills that will transfer to life while leaving an impact on those around you,” Flowers said.
