The Baker Wildcat football team returned to the Baldwin City campus on June 22 to begin their preseason workouts after months at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though the student athletes are welcome back on campus for workouts, there are guidelines being followed to ensure health and safety while preventing the spread of COVID-19.
As COVID-19 continues to spread, guidelines being followed include: athletes and coaches are to remain six feet apart at all times, no physical contact between athletes or coaches, athletes must wear a mask while entering Liston Stadium and during lifting workouts, athletes are required to provide and drink out of their own personal water jugs and coaches must bring equipment and weight racks from the Shore Weight Room to Liston Stadium to prevent close contact between athletes in the weight room. Athletes are not permitted to have contact during workouts until August.
Baker University Junior, Parker Guffey, said, “My favorite part of being back is definitely seeing all the guys again. It was great to catch up with all of them.” Players and coaches are happy to follow these guidelines as they were eager to return to their team and to begin preseason workouts to prepare for the upcoming season.
The Wildcat football team is preparing to defend their Heart of America South Division Title and aim to claim the title for the sixth year in a row. The Wildcats return a solid core of players that received post-season honors for their performances in the 2019-2020 season.
