Abracadabra and alakazaam are not typically the words you hear in a recipe, but the words hocus pocus really do sum up this magical dish.
Hocus pocus hot dogs were introduced to me at about age 4. My babysitter, Suey, who still is like a second mom to me, came up with many delicious and unusual meals, but this one topped my list. I actually had forgotten about it and hadn’t had it for probably 10 years until this summer when my best friend, Suey’s daughter, got married. No, they didn’t serve it at the reception, although that would have been awesome; we had it while addressing invitations one Saturday. We needed one of those meals to remind us of the good ol’ days because all we could think about was how we’re now old enough to get married. Scary.
This simple entrée may sound weird, but it takes me back to a time of swing sets and nap times, and it’s bound to do the same for any college student as it only has three ingredients that most love: biscuits, cheese and hot dogs.
With only three ingredients and a cook time of about 10 minutes, hocus pocus hot dogs are something that any student quickly can whip up before heading to class. There are normally leftovers, too.
Basically, this is just one of those meals that I’ll never forget and will always love. It’s one of those meals that I can count on to take me back to a simpler time. And when I’m really having a bad day, I’ll have firecracker bananas for dessert; stay tuned for that recipe. Thanks Suey!
