Baker University alumna Allyssa King is returning to be the new coach of the cheerleading squad in the place of Jeremy Webb, who took a teaching job in Korea.
King has been a cheerleader since she was in middle school. As a Baker student, King was a cheerleader from 2004-2008, and was the team captain her junior and senior years.
While King was a cheerleader at Baker, the team placed in the HAAC competition in 2008 and partook in the national competition.
King said becoming the cheerleading coach has given her a way to give back to the university.
She plans to work on team-building and creating a close, family-like atmosphere within the squad. King also wants to get the group ready for competitions early on in the season.
“(The cheerleaders) are a high-spirited and dedicated team,” said King.
King said she sees great talent in the freshmen additions to the squad and they could become good leaders in the future.
