Junior Jennifer Baldwin won her category at the Kansas State Fair for her peach pie. Her first place finish comes after taking fourth in last year’s event.
“I have been baking for around five years now,” Baldwin said. “I just went back again this year on a whim to see how my pie would do.”
There are six categories in the competition. Baldwin entered her pie in the peach category. The judges take the first place winners of each category and enter them into a sweepstakes competition, where Baldwin also won first place.
“I have never won before or looked into what the prizes were,” Baldwin said. “I just did it to do it, but for winning first place, they said I get $20 cash and a $50 gift card to Dillons.”
She is still very surprised she won the competition and is awaiting her prizes with ribbons to be delivered.
“I am still shocked,” Baldwin said, “I know it’s not a huge accomplishment, but it is something cool that I won.”
