Score one more tally for the Canadians.
Another Baker soccer coach has finalized his decision to migrate to our northern neighbor to continue his coaching career.
Clint Schneider, goalkeeper and assistant coach for the Baker Men’s soccer program, has chosen to remain under Alan Koch and serve as one of his assistants at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, B.C. next year.
Schneider, who is currently in his second year at Baker, said the decision was a tough one, but one he felt compelled to make.
“It was too good of an opportunity to turn down,” Schneider said when addressing the soccer team on Monday.
Schneider, who previously coached at the Darlington School Soccer Academy in Rome, Ga., spent most of his time at Baker working with the ‘Cats goalkeepers.
In addition to his day-to-day duties as assistant coach, he was also instrumental on the recruiting trail.
“(Schneider) has done more for this program than anyone will ever know,” Koch said. “He has been a big-time contributor in making this team as good as they are.”
Of the 18 freshmen and transfer students on the men’s soccer team this year, Schneider was personally involved in recruiting more than half of them, Koch added.
Known for his heart and enthusiasm, Schneider exhibited a great deal of Baker pride during his short tenure at the University.
“In many ways, he was the heart and soul of this program,” Koch said.
While Schneider will certainly be missed, the team understands he is following his dream.
“Schneids is a good guy,” said freshman Tom Lowndes. “We wish him the best.”
