Former Baker professor John Doudna dies

A memorial service for John “Charles” Doudna will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Baldwin City.

Doudna, a former Baker professor of religion and philosophy, died Feb. 22 in Lawrence. He was 101.

Doudna was a resident of Vintage Park Assisted Living Community. <br/>After accepting a position at Baker in 1953, Doudna and his wife Evelyn moved to Baldwin City where they lived together for 68 years. Doudna retired from his post at Baker University in 1975, but continued teaching part time for the university for three more years.

He was inducted into Baker’s Faculty Hall of Fame in 1999.
