Baker University’s Panhellenic welcomed National Panhellenic Conference adviser Betty Quick Wednesday afternoon through Friday morning.
“Since Betty has never been to Baker this is an opportunity for us to put a face with our adviser that has worked with us for the last several years,” Director of Student Life Brett Bruner said.
Bruner said Baker has not invited an NPC area adviser to visit the campus since he took the director of student life position in June 2008. He is unsure of when the last NPC area adviser visit was prior to his hire.
“Bringing Betty to campus sounded like an amazing opportunity for the chapters on campus,” senior Erin Falter said. “I really hope that she can give the chapters insight on how we can improve recruitment, fix some of our problems and maintain our numbers. She will really be able to offer a great outside perspective.”
Falter was Panhellenic president when the process of inviting Quick to campus began.
NPC holds a biannual convention to discuss updates, concerns and new resolutions for sorority life as a whole. During Quick’s stay at Baker, she will inform the sororities of these ideas presented at the convention. The last convention took place last fall.
“It’s pretty cool for me to be a part of Panhellenic when we are having such a knowledgeable person come in to help us improve,” senior Rachel Walkowiak said. “She can really help build up our chapters and promote our unity.”
Walkowiak is currently the Panhellenic president.
Walkowiak said even though Quick has several different meetings and events to attend while on campus, Walkowiak is looking forward to the recruitment meeting to improve fall numbers as well as the Panhellenic executive board dinner Wednesday night.
Bruner said Quick’s arrival on campus has definite benefits.
“While we regularly communicate with Betty for updates and ideas, her being here will give her the chance to give us some hands-on training that she can’t do otherwise,” Bruner said.
Bruner said some of the training Quick might work on during her visit may include Gamma Chi’s upcoming recruitment, as well as working with incoming officers and chapter delegates.
“We are so excited to be able to welcome her to the campus and our community,” Bruner said.
