The Baker Wildcats had two weeks to prepare for a homecoming matchup against another team of Wildcats, Culver-Stockton College, and will face them Saturday at Liston Stadium.
“We needed to take some days of contact out of our practices to get some guys healthy,” head coach Mike Grossner said. “I look at off weeks as a chance … to get a little extra work toward the team you’re playing. It’s kind of a fall mini-camp in the middle of the season.”
The Baker defense is coming off a shutout against Avila University, when it forced seven turnovers, while the offense scored 41 points, but Grossner said the offense needs to correct its turnover problem.
Culver-Stockton started the season 0-4 after losing its homecoming game 28-21 Sept. 19 against Avila, when the Eagles took the lead with 1:25 left in the game. Culver-Stockton also lost to MidAmerica Nazarene University 52-26, but was only trailing by five, 24-19, at halftime.
"Culver is a very deceiving 0-4 team," Grossner said. "There's times they can get it going and play pretty good football."<br/>&#160;
