A perfect 100 percent from the free-throw line sealed a victory for the men’s basketball team Tuesday over Benedictine College.

After losing their lead with five minutes left in regulation, the Wildcats kept their composure and pulled out a 71-67 victory.

Senior Justin Houser and junior Brock Entner helped spark the comeback when they both finished free throws during one-and-one opportunities. After a missed free throw by the Ravens, junior Malcolm Greer went up for a rebound and came down with an opportunity to seal the game. Greer put the game out of reach for the Ravens when he dropped two more from the charity stripe with only four seconds left.

The 36-28 halftime score reflected the Wildcats stellar shooting. After starting the Weaver said the team showed a lot of poise in its comeback.

"It was a good road win against a quality team," Weaver said.
The Wildcats defense deflated the quality of Benedictine's star post player Chris Bonham, as they held him to only three points. The Wildcats defense deflated the quality of Benedictine's star post player Chris Bonham, as they held him to only three points.

Greer said a lot can be attributed to the guard pressure.

“We have a lot of quick guard play, so we were able to pressure the ball and keep the ball from getting into the post players and their leading scorer,” he said.

Houser led the team with 18 points and six rebounds, while seniors Brett Shaw and Heath Baird dropped in 12 and 11 points, respectively. Shaw helped boost the Wildcats’ shooting to an overall percentage of 50 percent by shooting a perfect six for six from the field. Baird shot a perfect three for three from behind the arc and went four for six from the field.

After slowing the offense up, Greer said the team was able to execute on offense.

“We started running through our offense more than once to tire the defense out,” Greer said. “We took wide open looks instead of contested shots, and we found the weaknesses in their defense and exploited them.”

Senior Nick Iversen dished out four assists and laid in nine points.

Houser said the team has been very strong on offense, as everyone is capable of scoring.

"We play about seven players, and all of those players are able to score 10 (points) or more," he said.
The victory is the first for the Wildcats in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
