The Baker Orange

Letter to the Editor 3

December 7, 2006
Dear editorial staff, I was quite surprised to see that the Dec.1 edition of the Baker Orange had no coverage of W.I.R.E.'s landmine victims awareness campaign the week of Nov. 27. While the weather in the latter half of the week did affect some activities associated with the campaign, the snow also seems to have blinded the student newspaper to the innovation this student group brought to raising their peers' awareness of this serious international problem.

Story by Kirbee Yost December 7, 2006
Thanksgiving, a day dedicated to gratefulness, is a distant memory now with Christmas sneaking up more quickly than seems possible. As I've mentioned before, Christmas often gets tangled up in commercialism. Many people cannot see past a list of wants that results in shiny boxes wrapped and piled underneath a tree.

Now that the end of the semester is here, finals have added more weight to students' shoulders campus wide, but that doesn't mean student-athletes are allowed to forget about their sports. For both men's and women's basketball teams, finals fall midseason.

Letter to the Editor 2

December 7, 2006
Recently Sen. Pat Roberts "earmarked" $1.5 million exclusively to jumpstart work on the South Lawrence Trafficway. The Federal Highway Administration is required to investigate and take comments on various routes before the money can be spent. As executive director of Save the Wakarusa Wetlands, I would like to challenge every student, faculty member and administrator on the Baker University campus to take a second look at the so-called 32nd Street SLT proposal.

The Midwinter's Night Lock-in was what Alpha Psi Omega members called their Friday night of madness in Rice Auditorium. Members of the honorary theater fraternity got together to find out more about each other in a different environment than usual, with no pressure of memorizing lines or acting.
