With the recording of numerous percussion pieces, the Baker University percussion ensemble may now be heard far and wide and, of course, at the fall concert Saturday. Music instructors across the country may hear the ensemble thanks to a recording instigated by Adjunct Instructor of Music Steve Riley.

The 76th Annual Christmas Candlelight Vespers will provide a chance for Baker University's choral and instrumental groups to kick off the holiday season in perfect harmony. Professor of Music John Buehler said the vespers festival only consisted of choir performances in its early years, but it now involves all areas of music.

When senior Nathan Pedrow played his first game of basketball in fourth grade, he knew his future would be spent on the court. "My hometown had a youth club, and I started playing there," the power forward said. "I just fell in love with the game." For a few students each year, Baker University's pre-engineering program proves to be a vital yet difficult stepping stone in their educations by providing them with a liberal arts background before they pursue their future field. After studying three years of math and physics at Baker, the pre-engineering program allows students to apply to the engineering program at the University of Kansas or Washington University for an additional two years of study.

Computer department comes into question

Usually students aren't sure about their futures following graduation, but after current Baker University juniors and seniors majoring in computer sciences leave, the program's future is what will be uncertain. The computer science department is in the process of arranging for an outside consultant to come to campus this spring to help determine the department's future, Rand Ziegler, interim dean of the college of arts and sciences, said.
