As Baker University quickly approaches its sesquicentennial, it seems the institution has plenty of room for redefinition, and indications would say that change will be positive. With a new president accompanying numerous new faces on campus, it seems inevitable that Baker will experience changes in the coming years.

Vice President for University Advancement Lyn Lakin is not taking an aggressive approach to her new position, which she describes as a combination of alumni and relationship development and fund development. Instead, Lakin said she's been meeting people and becoming acquainted with Baker University since she started July 17.

Anti-Israel and anti-Semitic, is there a difference? Can a person's opposition to a nation's foreign policy be construed as racism? Do such attempts to simplify a complicated issue and to demonize political opponents have a legitimate place in our nation's political debate? This subject comes to mind for obvious reasons.

Morgan memorialized

Many people knew Jeff Morgan as J MO, and remember his love for singing. Others recall how he survived Hodgkin's disease and later in life helped children with their own battle of cancer. However he was known, he will always be remembered for his love of God and his friends.

Theater production features 2 actors

Baker University's play production, "A Walk in the Woods," takes a leap from the 'norm,' as it only has two characters. As it was the director's choice, Director Bruce Woodruff said the play is both challenging and enjoyable. "(Directors) have a luxury here at Baker," Woodruff said.

Espress Yourself celebrates grand reopening

Espress Yourself coffee shop will be having its grand reopening from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Crystal and Jason Camis have been the new owners of the coffee shop since Feb. 1. Crystal Camis said the grand reopening will be a day filled with prizes and samples of food.

Two finalists bring experience

Baker University's greek community will gain more attention and guidance beginning next year as the university completes a search to fill the new position of director of greek affairs this month. The individual selected to fill the new position will be responsible for overseeing greek activities, advising the various greek organizations on campus and leading the recruitment process.

Spiking Out Domestic Violence has returned again this year in hopes of uniting the campus while promoting awareness, Amanda Haas, vice president of fraternity relations at Alpha Chi Omega, said. Spiking Out Domestic Violence is an annual volleyball tournament hosted by Alpha Chi Omega as part of their national philanthropy.

Annual egg hunt held

More than 12,000 candy-filled eggs and thousands of scavenging children were enough to keep some members of the Delta Delta Delta sorority busy at Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' Cedar Crest home front April 12. Sophomore Ashley Locklin, Delta Delta Delta philanthropy chair, organized the members'' participation in the Governor's Annual Easter Egg Hunt, which included volunteers from many sororities throughout the state.

Making the movie buff

Baker University students interested in film studies will be able to take advantage of a new minor next fall. Cinema Studies will require 15 semester hours including four core classes and at least one production course. Director of Cinema Studies Mark Kirk said the minor would expand on existing and proposed cinema courses.
