Baker University's play production, "A Walk in the Woods," takes a leap from the 'norm,' as it only has two characters. As it was the director's choice, Director Bruce Woodruff said the play is both challenging and enjoyable. "(Directors) have a luxury here at Baker," Woodruff said.

Espress Yourself celebrates grand reopening

Espress Yourself coffee shop will be having its grand reopening from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Crystal and Jason Camis have been the new owners of the coffee shop since Feb. 1. Crystal Camis said the grand reopening will be a day filled with prizes and samples of food.

Two finalists bring experience

Baker University's greek community will gain more attention and guidance beginning next year as the university completes a search to fill the new position of director of greek affairs this month. The individual selected to fill the new position will be responsible for overseeing greek activities, advising the various greek organizations on campus and leading the recruitment process.

Spiking Out Domestic Violence has returned again this year in hopes of uniting the campus while promoting awareness, Amanda Haas, vice president of fraternity relations at Alpha Chi Omega, said. Spiking Out Domestic Violence is an annual volleyball tournament hosted by Alpha Chi Omega as part of their national philanthropy.

Annual egg hunt held

More than 12,000 candy-filled eggs and thousands of scavenging children were enough to keep some members of the Delta Delta Delta sorority busy at Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' Cedar Crest home front April 12. Sophomore Ashley Locklin, Delta Delta Delta philanthropy chair, organized the members'' participation in the Governor's Annual Easter Egg Hunt, which included volunteers from many sororities throughout the state.

Making the movie buff

Baker University students interested in film studies will be able to take advantage of a new minor next fall. Cinema Studies will require 15 semester hours including four core classes and at least one production course. Director of Cinema Studies Mark Kirk said the minor would expand on existing and proposed cinema courses.

’06 applications, admissions grow for fall semester

The Department of Admission has been seeing some fruits of its labor recently. Vice President of Enrollment Management Louise Cummings-Simmons said the department has seen an increase in several things. "We're running ahead in (applications), we're running ahead in admits, we're running ahead in confirmed and net confirmed," Cummings-Simmons said.

Wildcats finish 6-0 in?HAAC

The Baker University women's tennis team ended conference play with the ideal outcome Tuesday.??The women became the Heart of America Athletic Conference champions after a 7-2 victory over Benedictine College. The Cats' ended their regular season play with a record of 13-1 and went undefeated in conference play.

‘Cats drop five in HAAC play

The Baker University softball team dropped five of its last six games, which now puts the team at 23-18 overall and 10-7 in conference play. The Wildcats participated in the William Jewell Invitational April 14-15, with their only win coming against Graceland University.

Hastings to leave BU

Director of the Counseling Center Sarah Hastings will be leaving Baker University at the end of the academic year to take a position at Radford University in Radford, Va. "When I saw the posting, I wasn't planning to leave. I had no intentions of moving on for at least a couple of years," she said.

Album receives positive review

Students debate newspaper theft

Approximately 1,000 copies of the April 7 Baker Orange disappeared from every distribution site on campus except the Collins Center and the Heath and Counseling Center, Orange editor Jen Thierer said. With no evidence of what happened, all that is left is speculation, investigation and discussion of students' rights.
