Squads placed on year-long probation

The Baker University Cheer and Dance squads were placed on a year of probation after several members of the cheer squad were discovered to have taken part in illegal activities while at national competition in Daytona Beach, Fla. "We got put on probation because some of the girls didn't represent Baker in the way they should have," freshman cheerleader Darcy Nance said.

BU tires, cars damaged by vandals

The temperature is starting to get hotter and students everywhere are getting restless, which could be the cause of the recent instances of vandalism around campus and Baldwin City. Baldwin City Chief of Police Michael McKenna said last week, the police department received several calls from members of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority saying the tires in their cars were flat.

Breeden misses freedom of boring summers

Numbers for BU IDs to change by June 5

In accordance with efforts from the United States Social Security Administration to help prevent identity theft, Baker University will be changing its identification system on Campus Connect. Starting at noon June 5, students will no longer use their social security number to access the online Campus Connect system.

Boyd retires from Baker

Baker University Collins Library will be without one of it's familiar faces when the fall term begins as Jan Boyd, the technical services librarian, plans to retire after 30 years of service to the community. Boyd, who is married to professor of biology Roger Boyd, said she has worked for Baker since 1976.

Osness to take over P.E. dept.

Wayne Osness will be taking Athletic Director Dan Harris's place as the new physical education department chair next year. Harris is currently both department chair and athletic director. "The decision came in 2005 when we decided to have an outside consultant come in and assess the department," he said.

CDC receives mixed reviews

Newcomer athlete of the year: Nate Pedrow

The 2005 - 2006 Baker Orange newcomer of the year is junior basketball player Nate Pedrow. The 6'7," 210 lb. native of Lone Jack, Mo., Pedrow was able to step in and become a major contributor for this year's men's basketball team. Head coach Rick Weaver said he was pleased with the contributions Pedrow immediately brought to his team.
