SAC?plans events for Spring Fest ’06

This year's Spring Fest is undergoing a makeover, Student Activities Council officer junior Kelly Baird said. The SAC officers said they have made some changes to Spring Fest, which will be the week of April 17. "Spring Fest lasts for five days, and we want to put a theme on each night, which is something we never did in the past," Baird said.

Espress excitement Under the new ownership, Espress Yourself, located at 713 High St., has been making strides toward better involving the Baker University community. In fact, the owners even named the drink of the month after a BU student, senior Allison Scahill.

Espress Yourself celebrates grand reopening

Espress Yourself coffee shop will be having its grand reopening from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Crystal and Jason Camis have been the new owners of the coffee shop since Feb. 1. Crystal Camis said the grand reopening will be a day filled with prizes and samples of food.

Randle top in triple

The Baker University men's and women's track teams have recently competed in several meets including the Darrel Gourley Open, in Liberty, Mo., the Emporia State Multi Open, in Emporia and the Dean Pryor Invitational, in Coffeyville. At the Darrel Gourley Open, the men's team finished in fifth place with 63 points, 53 points behind eventual champion MidAmerica Nazarene University.

Baker retains students

Baker University's retention rate for students has finally stabilized after an unexpectedly low year. Freshmen who enrolled in the fall 2003 semester found plenty of reasons to change schools the following year, as only 67 percent re-enrolled. For Baker, that number is well below expectations, said Lisa Johnston, assistant dean for student academic services.

BU hosts KSHAA festival

Baker will host nearly 2,000 high school students participating in the Kansas State High School Activities Association Saturday for the regional solo and small ensemble festival. Music department chair John Buehler said each school brings its student soloists and ensembles to perform and be judged.

Class officers elected

At student senate's April 11 meeting, the new class officers and executive secretary were announced.?All races were uncontested. After previously being defeated for student senate president by incumbent Ryan Boyer, junior Jon Xenos won the race for executive secretary with 76 votes.

Sexual Violence Awareness grant kicks off events

A grant supporting sexual violence awareness for women has recently been signed for Baker University campus safety and is funded by the U.S. department of Justice. Associate Professor of Sociology Tim Buzzell, Director of Counseling Center Sarah Hastings and Assistant Professor of Education Karla Wiscombe are all involved with the grant, Tracy Williams, coordinator of women's programs, said.

Event applauds Baker women

The night was eventful as women from Baker University were nominated to receive recognition for all they had done. Fifteen women, either faculty, staff or students, were nominated as Women of Strength Wednesday, March 29 at Espress Yourself. Coordinator of Women's Programs Tracy Williams, was excited for the night to come and thought that it turned out better than planned.

Men, women take on outdoor season

The Baker University men's and women's track teams got the outdoor season underway Friday and Saturday competing in the Missouri Relays in Columbia, Mo., against strong NCAA opponents. The men's team was lead by the performance of sophomore Brent Randle.

Boyer elected for 2nd term

Baker University's student senate executive board will have a few new faces but the same head next year after executive elections were held March 27 and 28. President Ryan Boyer was re-elected in the only contested race, defeating junior Jon Xenos with a vote count of 145-124.
