Five members of the Baker University wrestling team are headed to nationals after their performances at the NAIA Central Qualifiers in Marshall, Mo. on Saturday.

Overall, Baker placed sixth in the tournament out of 13 teams. Three BU wrestlers finished high enough to automatically qualify for the NAIA National Wrestling Championships and the other two received at-large bids.

Freshman Bryce Shoemaker had the most success on the mat of all the Wildcat wrestlers, with a second-place finish in the 134-pound weight division.

Senior Parker Owen took fourth in the 184-pound weight class, while 125-pound senior Alan Callahan brought home fifth place for the ‘Cats.

Junior Nick Haugen and senior John Hambleton each received at-large bids for the national tournament. Haugen finished in fifth place of the 149-pound weight division, while the 184-pound Hambleton took sixth.

The Baker University Athletic Department posted the Qualifier brackets for Wildcat fans to see how the other BU wrestlers finished at the tournament.

The national championship is a two-day tournament, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on March 7 in Topeka.
