As the Baker University sports teams continue to dominate the Heart of America Athletic Conference this year, what is really great is the number of people turning out to support the teams.
This year, I am seeing more people out at the games and showing more spirit and school pride than ever before.
It could have originally passed as a fluke, since football games always draw crowds, but when people came in packs to support the volleyball team, soccer teams, wrestling and now basketball teams, it goes to show how major a year this has been for Baker athletics.<br/>
At every game there have been fans painted up and screaming cheers at the top of their lungs.
It is partly because of the fact we want our teams to prove themselves before we become dedicated fans. This year has been surprisingly lucky.
Our university even cares enough to provide free tickets to some games and to send reminders consistently when the big games come around. Those reminders have become constant in my inbox over the course of the year, and it is a good thing.
Athletes should also be proud of all they have accomplished in this year as well, and the number of people who have made their way to NAIA nationals in their respective sports.
One source of excitement in the sporting world is through Twitter, which has consistent updates available from wherever you are and causes many people to find the excitement in the sporting events even if they are not attending.
This campus has bonded as a community over the sports team wins and has built a sense of pride for everyone.
As a University Admissions Assistant, I am always proud to speak about our athletic programs because there is so much to talk about and I know that when I speak about it, I glow.
There are not many schools who have gone through the success that Baker has had this year and I am glad that so many people are jumping on the bandwagon and putting their all into attending sporting events.
The games and meets have become part of the Baker experience and are a way for students to feel much more involved in their education.
We may not remember the scores when we look back on these sporting events, but I guarantee we will remember the atmosphere and the people who were there with us.
I still remember the buzzer-beaters, the chanting and the crowd’s reactions. Moments like those, I know I will always be proud to be a Wildcat.
