Six members of the Baker University track and field team competed in the team’s first meet of the outdoor season March 15 in Emporia.
The Emporia State University Spring Twilight meet was optional for those track members who wanted to compete and were in the Baldwin area during spring break.
Baker Orange staff member Katie Thurbon posted a national-qualifying mark in the pole vault and placed first in the event.
“It was a very windy day, so I thought for the most part that the kids did a really good job,” head coach Zach Kindler said.
Freshman Paige Rockers competed in the triple and high jumps, taking home third in both events with marks of 10.97 and 1.50 meters, respectively.<br/>
Junior Jeremy Gathright also finished in the top five with a fourth place-finish in the men’s triple jump with a 13.79-meter mark.
The Wildcats will compete again Saturday at Liston Stadium for the Baker Relays.
“It should be a good meet this year,” Kindler said. “We got a couple new teams coming in, and our big conference competition, Central Methodist (University), will be there as well.”
