Baker University students will be seen April 14 around Baldwin City undertaking various community service projects for the second annual Baker Serves The Big Event. Last year, the event brought over 100 students together and this year the group hopes to reach its goal of 125 participants.

In order to bring in more volunteers, Baker Serves allows students to pick a volunteer opportunity that fits their interests.

“Volunteering should be something you enjoy doing, not something that you dread,” Baker Serves President Lauren Williams said.

Members of The Big Event asked businesses around the Baldwin City area if they were in need of volunteer services. Some of the locations students will have an opportunity to assist at are Vintage Park Assisted Living Community, Baldwin School District Carnival and the high school music festival that will be going on throughout the day.

“We want to give back to Baldwin and people in the community,” Williams said. “(In my opinion) if I can volunteer an hour of my time to change someone’s life, I’m more than willing to do that.”

Baker Serves encourages anyone to come, whether it is just for an hour or for the whole event.

“We just really hope that people will take a little time out of their day to make a difference,” Williams said.
