Eleven Baker University Mungano members participated in the Big XII Conference on Black Student Government, where they learned about being more effective leaders in the community while learning more about other cultures. The students presented what they learned to Baker students April 5.
“The Big XII Conference consist of schools in the Big XII conference as well as smaller schools,” Mungano President Katerra Shackelford said.
The majority of groups who participate in this conference are multi-cultural groups.
Shackelford said students who attended the conference gained leadership skills.
At the conference, students had the opportunity to listen to speakers about leadership while eating breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Shackelford said every night after dinner there was entertainment, such as themed parties.
Eventually, Mungano hopes to be able to invite leaders from other Baker organizations to join them at the conference.
“We appreciate Dr. Pat (Long) and Silas (Dulan) because they have helped us come up with the funds so that every student that wanted to go can go,” Shackelford said. “It was also a great opportunity to bring what we learned to the Baker community.”
