The competition proved hard to beat Friday for the Baker University track and field team.
Thirty Baker athletes took part in two meets Friday. In Lawrence, 24 athletes were among 790 competing at the University of Kansas. The remaining six athletes headed to Warrensburg, Mo.
“We didn’t have anyone hit any national qualifying marks, but we still had several individuals who competed really hard,” head coach Zach Kindler said. “A lot of our top kids were held off.”
Kindler said the recent weather, as well as illnesses and injuries among some of the more prominent athletes, all contributed to Friday’s outcome.
“In general, I think we’re improving and that’s exciting,” Kindler said. “I would say I’m happy with how the meets went.”
The next meet will be Saturday at Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Neb.
