The Baker University softball team will host Peru State College at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday at Cavaness Field for the opening round of the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament.
Peru State is 10-8 in the conference, just one game behind the ’Cats. In their April 7 doubleheader against PSC, the Wildcats won both games 6-1 and 3-0, and they’re hoping to sweep the Bobcats again.
“We’re expecting to do the same as last game, if not better, because we’re confident going into this game and our confidence … should help us play more relaxed,” junior Summer Kelley said.
BU finished conference play by defeating Avila University 8-0 and 13-0 Saturday in its doubleheader in Kansas City, Mo. BU ended its regular season with a non-conference doubleheader against Park University, but the Wildcats were unable to grab two more wins and lost 2-1 and 10-3.
Baker is 21-16 overall and 11-7 in the HAAC for the season. If BU and PSC split Friday’s games, they will play a third and final game at 2 p.m. Saturday to determine who plays the winner of Central Methodist and Benedictine College.
