Students in the Baker University theater department are rehearsing for their first two productions of the school year.
Auditions for “Out of Order” and “The Medieval Tale of Robin Hood” were held Aug. 27-28 in Rice Auditorium. The students who came to try out did warm up exercises, monologue reading and read the scripts from both plays.
“We had probably 20 students that came out for both nights of auditions,” Associate Professor of Theater Tom Heiman said, “There were a lot of really good new faces and talent that will make this year a lot of fun, even with both semesters.”
“Out of Order” will have its production Oct. 4-7. The production is about a congressman who plans to spend the night with a young woman, but she happens to be the secretary of the opposite party. The plot gradually spirals out of control, beginning with a dead body in the congressman’s secret suite. It goes from bad to worse as more individuals get become involved.

“The Medieval Tale of Robin Hood” will be produced Nov. 9-11. The play features a cast of eight actors, who will play a variety of roles. It will be an act suitable for all ages and have a lot of audience interaction.
“I chose these plays because we needed a good, solid children show and with Out of Order being a show we have done in the past and liked, it seemed right to bring it back,” Heiman said, “Also, last year we thought we were more academic, so we thought this year we would get a little more commercial.”
