After starting off its season with a 4-4 record on the road, the Baker University Volleyball team found success in its home opener Thursday against William Woods University.
The Wildcats came out early against the Owls by taking the opening set 25-18, but dropped the second set 25-21. However, the Wildcats bounced back and grabbed the final two sets 25-11 and 25-17.
Senior Savannah Smith and junior Crystal Simon contributed 15 kills and apiece, and freshman Danielle French followed closely behind with 14.
The Wildcats had a quick turnaround as they faced Sterling College and Friends University Friday afternoon in Collins Center for the Baker Invitational.
During the first day of the tournament, the Wildcats dropped the opening set against Sterling College. The team never looked back though, taking the next three sets 25-21, 25-18 and 25-11.
The team returned to the court a few hours later to face Friends University. After falling behind 0-2, the ‘Cats clawed their way back into the game, forcing the Falcons into a five-set match.
Smith once again paced the team in kills with 18, and helped the team to a 15-13 victory in the fifth set.
The Baker Invitational will continue Saturday, with the ‘Cats playing at 11 a.m. against John Brown University and at 7 p.m. versus Kansas Wesleyan University.
