Parallel to “Whose Line Is It Anyway?,” Baker University’s improv group, Loud Noises, played games with people who were hopeful to join in order to fill its troupe.
These games, which were a part of the audition process, can be categorized into three subtypes: charades, characters and scenes. The goal of the auditions was to see the hopefuls’ strengths and weaknesses. Loud Noises captain senior Bryce Bowers said they were looking for students who were quick, creative and capable of making people laugh.
The two inducted, full-time members are seniors Will Schowalter and Shawn Deegan.
“I think it’s the strongest line-up of comedians that we’ve had in awhile,” Bowers said. “Maybe even since my freshman year.”
The troupe, which is made up of almost half theater majors, practices every Sunday night and performs five or six times throughout the semester around campus.
Bowers said being a part of the troupe puts members out of their comfort zone and builds confidence, connections and friendships.
“Plus, it’s fun to make people laugh; pure (and) simple,” junior Teresa Morris said.
