The Baker University volleyball team set a goal at the beginning of its season to repeat as Heart of America Athletic Conference champions.
During their conference opener against Central Methodist University Tuesday at Collins Center, the Wildcats made their first stride toward reaching this aspiration.
The team made quick work of the Eagles, sweeping the team 25-18, 25-16 and 25-17.
Throughout the match, the Wildcats seemed to find all of the holes in their opponent’s court, and freshman Danielle French continued to be a presence at the net.
Central Methodist could not seem to find an answer for French offensively or defensively. The middle hitter contributed six blocks for her team and sent 10 kills past the Eagles.
Senior Jana Boss, HAAC Setter of the Week, provided 16 assists for the team and added seven kills of her own.
The Wildcats have a 9-5 record on the season and are 5-1 at home. As of Tuesday, Baker has more wins than any other conference team, but will take a week off before taking on Graceland University 7 p.m. Sept. 18 in Collins Center.
The Yellow Jackets are 1-0 in conference play after defeating Culver-Stockton College in five sets Tuesday.
