Donors, alumni, students, faculty and staff will gather in front of the Ivan L. Boyd Center for Collaborative Science Education Oct. 5 to celebrate the conclusion of the project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house.
“It’s just a chance for the university to come together and celebrate the successful completion of the project,” Amy Piersol, director of major gifts, said.
The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. in front of the Ivan L. Boyd Center for Collaborative Science Education. All students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the Baldwin City community are invited.
Student participation will be a big part of the event, with the Wildcat Band, spirit squad and university choir performing.
In addition to the transformation ceremony, there will be an invitation-only donor recognition dinner Oct. 4 in Mabee Gym, followed by a tour of the building. Anyone who has contributed to the building is invited to the dinner.
Two of the major donations to the project include the anonymous $3.5 million contribution, whose donor requested the building be named after Ivan L. Boyd. The Ross and Christine Hartley Hall addition is named after Ross and Christine Hartley, who donated $1.6 million to the project.
“Many of the donors have named spaces in the building, and so we want to showcase the building for them,” Piersol said. “It’s a way for the university to thank them for their contribution.”
