The win streak of the No. 9 Baker University women’s soccer team ended in a shutout against No. 19 Kansas Wesleyan University Sunday in Salina.
The 1-0 shutout brought Baker’s record to 5-2-1 on the season, while Kansas Wesleyan improved to 7-1 overall.
The lone goal of the game came from Kansas Wesleyan freshman Melissa Martinez in the 73rd minute. Freshman Karlee Perez recorded the assist.
Kansas Wesleyan was in control of the game offensively as it outshot Baker 7-3 in the first half and 9-4 in the second half.
Despite missing one goal, sophomore Rachel Theobald had six saves in the goal for Baker. Junior Emily Tielrooy and senior Karina Albarran shared the shutout between the pipes for KWU.
The Wildcats will appear on the field again at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Liston Stadium against Mid-America Christian and at 3 p.m. Sunday in their conference-opener against Central Methodist.
“I think we’re in a good spot heading into conference right now,” sophomore Shelby Schiraldi said. “I am really excited for us and think we will come out ready to win.”
