A dead body floating around the stage, people hiding in an assortment of places, and a dress that goes missing. Those are just some of the many sights that audiences will be seeing in the first theater production of the year.
“Out of Order” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 7 p.m. Sunday in Rice Auditorium. The production is considered to be fast and lively and audiences will need to be attentive in order to hear all the “one-liners” that will be thrown their way.
“The cast has been very good and working really hard,” Associate Professor of Theater Tom Heiman said. “This play is very precise with its lines, so the cast has been working double to get their lines down word for word because if they don’t, then the next guy’s line won’t make sense.”
The production is entered into the Kennedy Center American Theater Festival, and a regional representative will be present during the week of the play to nominate individuals for acting and technology awards. Individuals who get nominated for their acting will go on to compete in the regional festival, where Baker has done well, putting five people in the final cut of 64 for the last seven years.
“There are so many (scenes). It varies between watching the window of death fall down and hack people in the head, watching the dead body swing on a door, or some of my favorite moments (which) are the more subtle ones, where someone is just sitting on a chair cocking their head,” Heiman said. “This show is just so full of them that there isn’t a grand moment to show.”
