For the second straight week, senior Aaron Caldwell broke the Baker University cross country team’s 8,000-meter run record.
Caldwell ran a time of 25:17 at the Haskell Invitational Saturday in Lawrence after breaking the previous record with a time of 25:34 Sept 29. at the Rim Rock Farm Classic. He ran average mile time of 5:05, which was good for a second-place finish.
The men’s team captured a second-place finish after falling five points behind the University of Saint Mary. Freshman Jeremy Bryan and seniors Eric Larson and Taylor Nall also finished in the top 20 for the Wildcats.
After its performance at Rim Rock Farm, the team jumped three spots in the NAIA Top 25 Poll to No. 22 Wednesday. The Wildcats are the only team in the Heart of America Athletic Conference receiving votes.
In addition to the men’s team, the women are also receiving votes in the NAIA coaches’ poll. The team continued to prove itself Saturday clinching its second first-place finish of the season.
Junior Lauren Jaqua was the top runner for Baker as she finished with a time of 18:33 in the 5,000-meter run at Haskell. Jaqua not only lead the Wildcats, who had five runners finish in the top 20, but was also won the race overall.
Sophomore Kerry Kurta, juniors Ashley McBride and Megan Rosa and senior Lindsey Brown also finished in the top 20.
The Wildcats will take the week off, but will return to action in the Mid-States Classic Oct. 20 in Winfield. The event will serve as the teams final meet before competing in the HAAC Championships Nov. 3 in Lamoni, Iowa.
