Baker University is creating a new ad campaign to promote the Baldwin City campus and other locations where Baker offers classes.
Junior Tim Laughlin said the new commercials will have an “old to new” approach. Laughlin participated in a campus video shoot on Sept. 14. He was selected to represent an ideal student of Baker University.
“A couple of days before the shoot, I got an email saying that I was selected because I was a good representation of the school,” Laughlin said.
The shooting process was time-consuming, but Laughlin thinks it is a good investment for the university.
“We did six to 10 takes and it took about three hours,” Laughlin said. “I was just happy I got to represent the university.”
Sophomore Kyra Ramsey also appeared in the commercial and was selected randomly the morning of the shoot while eating breakfast in the cafeteria. Ramsey also says the commercial is taking the old-to-new route after some students re-enacted an old picture that was taken of students walking through the front gates decades ago.
Ramsey believes the commercial will be a good representation of the school and is a great way to get the Baker’s name out there.
“I feel like no one really knows about it, it’s a small school,” Ramsey said. “It will be a good way for people to hear about us.”
Chris Smith, the university’s assistant director of marketing and communications, believes the existing campaigns have run their course and the timing is right to head in a different direction.
The university used Through a Glass Production from Lawrence for the shoot.
“I think the planning was good and the scripts are strong,” Smith said. “I am confident these will be the strongest ads that Baker has aired.”
