Sometimes when you return to your dorm room after a long day of lectures and notetaking, you just need that one thing that puts your feng shui back on track. For me, that one thing is Cat Power.
Cat Power, or Chan Marshall, is a solo female vocalist reminiscent of the likes of Fiona Apple and Ingrid Michaelson, combining simple acoustic and piano melodies with soft vocals that would probably turn Vin Diesel into a puppy-adopting philanthropist.
Having some of the most sincere and honest lyrics since Neil Young wrote "Ohio," Cat Power embodies the idea that nothing in music is off limits. Though her style has changed from her debut album Dear SirDear Sir to her newest album to her newest album SunSun, her vocal styling is still very distinctive., her vocal styling is still very distinctive. Dear Sir to her newest album Sun, her vocal styling is still very distinctive.
Bringing together the soul, indie, and alternative rock genres into a surprisingly coherent musical style, Cat Power has quickly become one of my go-to indie banks as the years have passed.
I’ve included her song "No Sense" from the album Moon PixMoon Pix in this blog, since it encapsulates her soft yet powerful sound. in this blog, since it encapsulates her soft yet powerful sound.Moon Pix in this blog, since it encapsulates her soft yet powerful sound.
