Baker University alumnus Connor Bechard, who is now an executive office assistant and a men’s basketball graduate assistant, has been connecting with some students by releasing his music through social media such as Twitter.
What Bechard has been calling "new music Fridays<a href="http://soundcloud.com/connor-bechard">new music Fridays</a>" has become a weekly routine. He sings covers of popular songs that often are suggested to him by students. Joining Bechard is senior Jordan Honore, who is featured in many songs and helps produce music. Bechard’s music background comes from his involvement in a high school band, Static 210, which began in 2003 and he later joined in 2005.
The band was originally started by guitarist Brandon Miller, who was a friend of Bechard. The band played all around the Kansas City area, but had to stop when members went separate ways for college in 2007.
Recently, Static 210 has regrouped, started doing shows again and will be playing its first show Nov. 17 at what Bechard has called the group’s hometown bar, Tumbleweed, in Gardner.
Static 210 mainly plays classic rock and country but recently has been mixing in modern rock and songs of other genres suggested to them. When talking about the upcoming show, Bechard said he was mostly anxious and nervous, but hopes after the first show Static 210 will start playing regularly around the Kansas City area.
