The No. 13 Baker University football team helped its playoff chances Saturday with a 38-28 road win against No. 18 Benedictine to improve to 7-2 on the season.
In the Wildcats seventh straight win against the Ravens, they had a number of offensive weapons, and not all of them were your normal suspects.
BU found itself in a 7-0 hole early on in the second quarter when junior quarterback Jake Morse and senior wide receiver began to find a rhythm.
Harris hauled in all eight of his receptions in the first half for 118 yards and two touchdown catches to give the Wildcats a 14-7 advantage going into the halftime break.
While the Ravens tied the game at 14-14 midway through the third quarter on Cameron Fore’s second touchdown carry, it would not stay that way for long.
Baker appeared to be content to retake the lead on a 32-yard field goal the ensuing drive, but head coach Mike Grossner had another idea.
Grossner rolled the dice and called for a fake field goal and the Wildcats ran the play to perfection as holder Bryan Williams threw the ball over his shoulder to placekicker Steven Stewart, who ran it into the end zone to put BU up 21-14.
The Wildcats kept momentum on their next drive as Morse threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to senior Jake Green. Morse threw for a season-best 285 yards and three touchdowns.
The BU offense kept rolling after junior Emmerson Clarke recovered a fumble around midfield on the Ravens ensuing drive. Junior Dillon Baxter turned the turnover into points for the Wildcats on a 8-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 35-14.
The Ravens went on to turn the ball over again on the following possession when BC quarterback Bill Noonan was picked off by sophomore defensive back Preston Schenck. The Wildcats capitalized on that turnover with a career-long 50-yard field goal from Stewart.
Noonan and the Ravens rallied late in the fourth quarter as he threw two touchdown passes, but it was not enough to upend the Wildcats.
The Wildcats will conclude their regular season with Senior Day against Graceland University at 1 p.m. Saturday at Liston Stadium.
