The Baker University women’s basketball team traveled to Winfield, where it defeated Southwestern College 74-66 and picked up its fifth win of the season.
The victory on Tuesday improved the Wildcats’ record to 5-3 overall, while the Lady Builders fell to 2-4 on their season.
Baker jumped out with a 12-6 lead to begin the game, but after the Wildcats turned the ball over on two consecutive offensive possessions, Southwestern had the momentum to go on a 14-2 run and take back the lead at 25-14.
The ‘Cats then responded with a 16-2 run of their own, but Southwestern came out on top of the first half with a 37-34 lead.
Baker outscored the Lady Builders 40-29 in the second half to put away the game in its favor.
Sophomore Rashida Simpson recorded her second double-double of the season after scoring 19 points for the Wildcats and rebounding the ball 13 times.
Seniors Alisha Fanshier and Rece Huddlin also recorded double-digits for Baker, scoring 17 and 10 points, respectively.
The team as a whole shot 45-percent from the field and hit eight 3-pointers, four of which came from Fanshier.
The Baker defense held the Lady Builders to a shooting percentage of 35-percent from the field and caused them to turn the ball over 16 times. Freshman Shea Shoemaker picked up three steals of her own on the night.
The Wildcats will be back in action at 2 p.m. Saturday as they take on Central Christian College of Moberly in Collins Center.
