The Baker University men’s basketball team picked up its third victory in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Saturday as the Wildcats defeated Graceland University 63-58 in Lamoni, Iowa.
Seniors Ben Steinlage and Corey Anderson led the way for the Wildcats with 18 and 13 points, respectively.
The Wildcats took control in the first five minutes by getting out to an 11-2 lead. The Yellowjackets responded with a 17-6 run over the next seven and a half minutes to take their only lead of the half at 19-17, but the Wildcats went into the break with a 31-28 advantage.
Baker kept Graceland at an arm’s length and never trailed in the second half. The Yellowjackets pulled within three after a 3-pointer from Trey Sathoff with three seconds left, but Anderson sealed the victory for BU by knocking down two free throws.
With the win, BU improved to 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the HAAC. The Wildcats will attempt to get back to .500 in conference when they take on Benedictine College at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Atchison.
