The tennis teams had an eventful weekend, sending four athletes to compete in the ITA tournament in Kansas City while also hosting the Douglas County Closed Tournament.
Sophomore Drew Richter stormed the competition at the ITA tournament making his way to the finals Sunday. Teammate Keith Pipkin said the athletes were privileged to attend the ITA tournament and that Richter’s performance was exceptional.
“I would have to say Drew did outstanding in the tournament, making it to the finals in the B draw, taking out a couple really hard people and then giving a great effort the last day on Sunday,” Pipkin said.
After a full weekend of tennis, the men turned right around and competed against Johnson County Community College Monday. The team couldn’t grab the victory against JCCC, but Pipkin said the team’s effort was impeccable.
“Everyone really gave it their all (Monday) and there were lots of close matches,” Pipkin said. “Overall it was a really good effort and it’s practice for the upcoming match against William Jewel, a conference team.”
Both teams will go head-to-head with conference opponent William Jewell College at 4 p.m. Friday on the Baker courts.<br/>&#160;
