Baker Serves, a community service organization for BU students, will be teaming up with Harvesters Community Food Network Feb. 23 and March 23 in Topeka.
Junior Sierra Wallace, Baker Serves community service chair, said this is a fun experience and it gives Baker students the opportunity to help a lot of people, not just in Baldwin City but in other area communities.
While at Harvesters, Baker Serves will be packaging boxes of food for the elderly, and packing backpacks of food for kids who may not have food. Harvesters also serves as a distribution center and sends food off to other food banks in the area.
Baker Serves will also have a table in Harter Union on Valentine’s Day where students can help make and color Valentine’s Day cards for the elderly at nursing homes in Baldwin City. Wallace said they have done this type of thing before and thought it would be a good idea to do it while Student Activities Council has the Valentine’s Day Open House.
“I really like giving back to the community, and showing how important the community is to Baker,” Wallace said.
