The No. 10 Baker University bowling team came away with a 10th-place finish out of 55 teams in the Blackhaul Direct Hoosier Classic Saturday and Sunday in Indianapolis.
The Wildcats were led by sophomore Carly Schmidtlein, who placed 16th out of 370 competitors. Senior Caitlin Campbell followed Schmidtlein by finishing just outside of the top 25 at No. 26 overall.
Senior Chloe Mercer was the No. 3 bowler for BU and was pleased with her performance and how the team bowled as a whole.
“I think we met our expectations,” Mercer said, “myself and the team.”
While she was satisfied with how she bowled, she is looking to improve her spare game.
“Individually, hitting my spares is something I’m going to work on,” Mercer said.
The Wildcats just missed out on making the Elite Eight tournament bracket. Wichita State University was ranked No. 1 going into the Elite Eight, but Robert Morris University was the overall winner of the women’s tournament.
This was Baker’s last tournament before the USBC Sectional Qualifiers on March 8-10.
They will be led by Campbell and Schmidtlein, who are both ranked in the top 50 in the nation in average games.
Mercer said focus will be the key to performing well.
“It is three weeks from now, so we are just going to have to keep our goals at the front of our minds at all times,” Mercer said.
